I went back to get my FNP (Family Nurse Practitioner) from 1996-1999. Throughout grad school I worked as an RDN and an RN (Registered Nurse) - also obtained in grad school. More recently in 2010 I went on to obtain the CSSD (Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics) credential and then three years ago the CEDRD (Certified Eating Disorders Registered Dietitian).

In the area of sports nutrition, I would like to clear up that we do not work with only healthy and motivated people. We work with human beings who happen to be athletes, dancers, or performers. These are human beings who are often very high achievers and need support from us. They fall prey to the same misinformation as the rest of the world because…they are human.
I focus on helping clients with eating disorders and disordered eating, though I also work with clients with chronic illnesses. Most of my clients know what they “should” be doing to improve their mental and physical health, and come to me because they feel stuck in trying to make those changes.
Read MoreIdeally, I think it would be amazing if there were more eating disorder dietitians. It’s such a growing concern for many as cases rise and where to turn for help is commonly a struggle. Food wise, I hope that more people can understand that calories are not always the enemy and to focus more attention on ingredient labels.

Then we embark on a journey of making sense of their food/nutrition struggles, whatever they may be. Their situations may not have obvious nutrition implications; and often there aren't any standard practice guidelines, so I do a lot of detective work!
